Back Home

I'm back in Atlanta without the answer I was looking for but a concrete plan to move forward. This week I am undergoing more tests and resuming treatment. The window for surgery is still open, but just barely.

I cannot thank my brother and his family enough for everything they did for me this week. It was far beyond the call of duty. Liz served as my chauffeur, confidante, adviser, she gave me some of the best advice I have ever received, and made sure that I did not lose weight on her watch. Likewise, my gratitude for the medical care I received at MD Anderson as well as from my physicians in Atlanta knows no bounds. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.

The Denys boys held down the home front, and Amy and crew are making sure Aussenberg Waggoner LLP is still the premier family law firm in Atlanta.

I'm moving forward. Thanks everyone for staying with me.

Elyse,

I am sorry we did not get a chance to meet during your trip to Houston. Don't let the enormity of the Texas Medical Center or the many tests and doctors cloud your focus. Take a deep breath and push forward. Your family, friends, and support staff are ready to help you meet your goal.

Hey Elyse--

Glad you're back. We're still holding down the fort, but it's just not the same knowing you're 1000 miles away. And of course it's all about me ;-)

Enjoy your time with all of your boys and your girl.

Talk to you soon.

Elyse,
Welcome home!!! We are all so glad you are back home, though it is obvious you were well taken care of by Neil, Liz et al in Houston. Having talked to you and/or followed your blog daily, I am looking forward to catching up on the latest news from the wonderful medical staff out there and seeing where you go from here. As so many have said, take a deep breath(which you are doing much better now), and digest all the info you have, and begin moving forward with the facts you have now. Being home will certainly give you the boost you need to keep on fighting, so you go girl!!
Love you.

Elyse -maybe a trip to the our MIC is exactly what you need. You know we are always here for you. I know it was an up and down week - but focus on the ups and endure the downs. You have a wonderful family, medical team and friends who are here to rally around you and help you through each and every day. As you said - one foot in front of the other - and you will see you will keep moving forward. We love you and have you in our thoughts and prayers daily. Take care.

Elyse, if you are up for more options , and to talk to someone who went through it, call Hilda weissman (david and nancy's mother) she went to boston (mass general i believe) and had surgery there after she was told no down here (yes she has 25 years on you), and each case is different, but i saw her today and she loved the doctors and care she got there and said she would be very happy to talk to you (just another option that you might want to explore).
we are thinking of you Boo and Gary

Hi Elyse,
Tim and I are here in Columbus reading the blog. We are glad you are home and sorry there are no definitive answers. I have faith in you and you will make the right decisions. You have good instincts so trust them. How many times have you been right and I been wrong:)!
We love you and I will be back in town Sunday so if you need anything at all that I can provide, please call.

Staying with you is not even close to what we are doing Elyse. We are praying hard, looking to the sky and reading, listening and taking notes on your internal strength as you continue to plow through this meteroic curveball change that has been wrenched into your life. Your strength inspires us all in our trivial life issues.

So two lawyers go into a diner and order two drinks. Then they produce sandwiches from their briefcases and start eating. The waiter is watching all this and becomes quite annoyed by the scene. He marches over and barks at them, " you ladies can't eat your own sandwiches in here !!"

The attorneys look at each other, shrug their shoulders, exchange their sandwiches and keep eating...

Keep slugging Ali.. Love and prayers Steve

Dear Elyse,

I am a friend of Neil and Liz in Houston. Would just like to let you know even people you have never met care about you and wish you and full and speedy recovery. With your permission I would like to put your name on the misheberach list at Brith Shalom, our synagogue, and that way we can get all the big guns together and so some heavy duty praying going! Even if you prefer not to do this, please know that my family and I and sending our best wishes and prayers to you on a daily basis over the many miles to you.I hope that you can feel them and wrap them around you for comfort.

If there is anything else we can do for you here in Houston, give me a call at 713.855.8695, or e-mail me a lmarouni@gmail.com. We will keep an eye on Neil and Liz at all times for you. I am sending you a big squeeze right now. Hope you get it.

Elyse, thinking of you. Hope you get some rest and reflection times and continue to feel clear about your path. We are home this week and will call in later to see about your appetite for visits from 3-5 year olds. Love, Michelle N

Boy, you sure were right about Pineapple Express! The first stop was Stupidville and the last was Dumb-As-It-Gets Town with stations in between at the Borrough of Irrelevant Characters, Crap Dialogue City, and Jokeless Comedy Heights.

Elyse,

We enjoyed our brief visit with you on Friday and look forward to seeing you again soon -- without C, MDA, MIC, or any of the other current misspellings of feh.

Stay positive, enjoy being back home with John and Brent, and paddle hard for the V.
